Re: Tieng Viet lovers club
The good of modern time
================================ VietNamNet Bridge – A 14-year-old boy who self sacrificed himself to rescue his friends, a pregnant railway worker who rescued a baby, a rubbish collector who gave back $2,000… are good examples reported on the local media in 2011. 1. Brave boys On August 6, on his way back home, Pham Quang Vinh, 14, in Binh Thanh commune, Duc Trong district, the central highland province of Lam Dong, saw four children who were reaching up their hands in the middle of a deep hole. Vinh immediately plunged himself to the hole to draw each of kid to the shore. Vinh, a 7 grade student, has been praised as a hero. The local youth organization rewarded the boy’s braveness. Tran Van Nguyen, also 14, in the central province of Quang Ngai self sacrificed several times to rescue other people. In his third time in early September, Nguyen was dead after taking a small kid from the middle of a local river to the bank. The Youth Union and Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan posthumously presented the “Brave Youth” medal to Nguyen. 2. Pregnant rail guards rescue babies On October 20, after lifting down the barrier to make way for a train that was running into the terminal in the central city of Hue, Nguyen Thi Nhan, 26, a railroad guard at Binh Tri Thien Railway Management Company, saw a baby standing on the track just 55m from the coming train. Despite her 6-month pregnancy, Nhan immediately gave signals to the train to slow down and rushed to take the boy away. It wasn’t until a long after the incident that Nhan could regain her calm. The Vietnam Railway Corporation issued a decision to commend and reward Nhan for saving the 2-year-old boy. Nhan had previously been praised and awarded by her company. A similar case happened in Phu Yen Province in August when 23-year-old Tran Thi Xuan, also a railway guard, saved a 20-month-old boy from being hit by a train in Tuy An District. The boy, whose name is Nguyen Ngoc Bau, suddenly stepped into the track while a train was approaching him at 60 kph. Xuan was later awarded a certificate of merit and VND2 million (US$96) for her brave act. 3. Waste collector gives back $2,000 Mr. Cho, a waste collector in the central city of Da Nang picked up a plastic bag on the road, with VND45 million (over $2,000) inside. He brought the bag to the local police station, asking police officers to give the bag back to the owner. Police then returned the bag to a local woman. Some people said Cho was foolish because his family is very poor but Cho said that he could not spend money of others. After a traffic accident, Cho could not work as a xe tho driver (carrying goods by bicycle) and he has become a waste collector. The old man earns only VND45,000-50,000 ($2-$3) a day. Local police presented a certificate of merit and VND2 million ($100) bonus to the man. 4. Poor man with free transport service for students The image of a middle-aged man who drives a home-made vehicle to carry poor students to and from school everyday has been very popular to residents of Hamlet 7 in Hoc Mon district, HCM City. Most of residents in Hamlet 7 are poor people who do not have stable jobs and vehicles to take their children to school, which is over 3km far. A local man named Nguyen Van Hung made a vehicle to take around 20 children in the hamlet to school for free, with eight trips a day. His wife initially did not agree with her husband’s “work for nothing” act but as his act is useful for many people, she now warmly supports him. 5. 68-year-old man cleans up street at night For the last 4-5 years, a thin, snowy-haired old man has cleaned the street of Chinese Vietnamese in Ward 11, District 5, HCM City every midnight. That is Mr. To Tien Ha, 68. The homeless man has been living for nearly half of a century at the corner of the street. He does every job to earn his living, from washing dishes, stevedoring, etc. He has been a volunteer cleaner for years. 6. Village of cornea donators Binh An 1 village in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue has only 500 families, but up to 100 people have registered to donate their cornea. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Kieu, who initiated this campaign, said: “When I did not understand about cornea donation, I was scared because I thought that cornea donation is tearing eyes of the dead to donate to the living. But after doctors explained to me about it, I immediately registered.” Binh An 1 is the first hamlet where has the cornea donating campaign. PV

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club
Good to engage in these biz near to Lunar new year.....
Home services getting more expensive on Tet days ================================================== ====== VietNamNet Bridge – It is now the high business season for Tet services: car and motorbike care, money change, home decoration and beauty services. Of course, the high demand has made the services more expensive. High fees for car renting, money change It’s very cold these days, which has pushed up the demand for car renting and dry laundry. Nguyen Huu Thanh, the owner of a car renting shop at No 286 Nguyen Trai Street in Hanoi said that the number of people renting cars is double that of the last year, while the rental has also increased. In 2011, Thanh rent car for the fee of 700,000 dong, while he now can charge up to 1.1 million dong per day. People mostly demand medium class cars such as Hyundai Get (500,000 dong in fee per day), Lacetti (700,000 dong), Innova (1.2 million dong). The clients, who need to rent cars, have to show identity cards and deposit money of 7-8 million dong. “The service has been in such a high demand that even luxurious cars such as Camry or Civic which have the high fee of 1.7-2.2 million dong have also been ordered,” Thanh said. Regarding dry laundry, instead of charging 30,000 dong for an overcoat, laundry shops now charge 120,000 or 150,000 dong. Previously, customers could get their clothes back after two days. Meanwhile, customers are now told to wait for one week. Hoang Minh in Den Lu residential quarter said that he only had to pay 100,000 dong to have 4 overcoats washed earlier this winter, while he has been charged 300,000 dong in recently days. Small change service proves to be the most bustling service these days. Vietnamese people have the habit of changing their banknotes in big face values into small changes, which they will used to donate when going to pagodas on Tet days, or to give to children as Tet gifts. Nguyen Anh Ha, the owner of a small change shop on Quang Trung Road in Ha Dong district, requires the fee of 40-45 percent for new 200 dong banknotes, 30 percent for 500 dong banknotes, and 15 percent for 1000 dong and 2000 dong bank notes. For example, people need to pay 100,000 dong and get back 60,000 dong in 200 dong and 500 dong bank notes. Vietnamese people now not only like Vietnam dong new bank notes, but they wish to have dollar banknotes as well. On some websites, one dollar banknotes are being offered to sell at 25,000 dong (the actual dollar price now is about 21,000 dong per dollar). Small change shops’ owners say that in general, two dollar bank notes and 10,000 dong bank notes are now most wanted. Home services in high demand Ha Thuy, an office worker, said that she does not have time to do housework herself, therefore, she has to have house cleaning, ornamental trees taking care, preparing parties done by service providers. “You just need to spend several hundreds of thousands of dong or one million dong to have everything done just within a short time,” THuy said Doanh Minh Chinh on Thai Thinh street of Dong Da district said that the services are now very diversified. Housewives can find assistants to make rice glutinous cakes, wash dishes and clean house. “You just need to spend 100,000-200,000 dong a day, and you can go out on Tet days,” she said. Especially, if someone wants a party to feast guests on Tet days, they just spend some tens of thousands of dong to hire a professional cook who will surely satisfy his guests. If housewives want someone to make purchases for them, they would have to spend 20,000 for every invoice, and the transport fee from supermarket to home, about 10,000-30,000 dong. The service of painting houses and interior redecorating has become 15-20 percent more expensive, while the service fee is thought to increase by 50 percent on the days just before Tet. Hong Chau

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club
Most expensive dining experiences in Vietnam
================================================= These expensive dishes may cost a few months’ salary for an average Vietnamese but the upscale restaurants catering them are always crowded with people trying to get a seat to savor these high-class dishes made from carefully chosen ingredients by renowned chefs Is the money spent on these dishes worth their promised health and nutrient value or is it just for the glamour of dining in fancy places? Only insiders can answer. 1. Appetizers fetch $750, an everyday occurrence for the rich At S.H. restaurant on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, 50 kg of lobsters are consumed every day. Though it costs VND3.2 million ($150) a kilogram, lobster is one of the favorite dishes here. Some customers spend dozens of millions of dong just on this. T., a waitress at the restaurant, says it happens ever day. She lists some expensive appetizers like red snapper fin and crab-roe soup (VND1.5 million), bird’s nest and shark fin soup (VND1 million), and Australian abalone soup (VND1 million). A meal for six could cost $1,500 without drinks. Wines cost $1,000. Customers can bring their own drinks, but corkage is $15 for wine and $20 for booze. The waitress says hundreds of customers come every day, with weekdays being busier than weekends. “They usually come to talk business. Since they pay a bill of $1,500 without batting an eyelid, I guess they are not spending their own money," said the waitress. 2. A bowl of pho costs 100 kilos of rice A bowl of pho costs $34, as much as 100 kg of unhusked rice - yet the dish has been warmly received and eagerly consumed by many customers, said Mr. To Lam, General Director of the Hanoi-based Capital Garden (Vuon Thu Do) Restaurant, where this special and shockingly priced beef noodle is served. The place offers mainly two kinds of beef noodle: the VND650,000 ($34) Sagagyu beef noodle served in fine china gold gilded bowls with curved spoons, and the VND125,000 ($6.5) American beef noodle served in normal bowls with straight spoons. The service is also more elaborate: broth and noodle is served in one bowl, and machine sliced beef served in a separate dish. The VND500,000 ($26) Kobe beef, or the VND220,000 ($11) Wagu beef are also available here. Prohibitive as it is, the dish is in such a demand that his three restaurants, accommodating 150 guests, are often overloaded – guests are mostly businessmen and wealthy families. 3. Hundred-dollar beefsteaks My Way restaurant on Hanoi’s Ly Thai To street serves beefsteak made from expensive Japanese Kobe beef at VND1.9 million (US$90) for tenderloin and VND1.7 ($80) for strip loin. Each dish includes a 200g steak, mashed potato, bread, salads and a choice of five different sauces: green pepper, red wine, BBQ, cherry tomatoes and mushroom cream. At lower prices, customers can choose Japanese Wagyu for VND1.28 million (US$500) or American and Australian beef starting from VND380,000 ($20). The reason for such high prices is due to the high costs of the ingredients and the complexity of the preparing and cooking process. Ho Toan Thang, the restaurant chef, said about 20 guests visit the restaurant to savor the steaks every day. Besides curious people who wished to try the expensive dishes once, 70 percent of the guests are frequenters who take family, friends and partners to the restaurant. There are also reservations for a table for two with candle lights, Kobe beefsteaks and Spanish wine for a sweet proposal night. 4. Drinking gold wine to prevent HIV/AIDS A gold wine brand called G. is said to contain 22 carats of pure gold to help increase iron levels in blood, decompose stones inside organs and increase energy. Each 500ml bottle is sold for VND1.5 million (US$75). At the same price, consumers can buy a set of three bottles of Korean gold wine, which is said to help prolong lifespan, brighten skin and prevent HIV. “My husband bought them during his business trip to Korea,” said a gold wine seller in Ho Chi Minh City. “Take one glass before each meal and you’ll see the effect in a week.” Doctor Do Thi Ngoc Diep, director of the HCMC nutrition, said no research had shown gold to have any benefit to human health. It is not listed as a healthy nutrient. “There is no need to eat gold,” Diep said. “On the contrary, overeating can cause poisoning since gold is a heavy metal.” 5. Eating golden turtle to cure heart diseases If you think these Hanoi restaurants and their patrons are decadent, they pale in comparison to what goes on the Mong Cai border in Quang Ninh, where rich people feast on golden turtles. According to a rich man living here, golden turtles are very precious and rare. Since they live in high mountain habitats, they breathe the freshest air and are very nourishing. Eating them can improve one’s health and wine mixed with turtle blood or gall can help cure heart disease, he claims. Their price? A turtle no larger than a cup costs VND50 million ($2,400). 6. Local chef, local ingredients, international price Chef Vo Quoc’s high-class catering has got popular by word of mouth, and he does not pay for marketing or advertising, but instead lets his clients find him. Every time he receives an order to cater at a house or company party, Quoc introduces his clients to three simple courses with five dishes each. Depending on the quality, each course can cost VND2-8 million (US$100-400) per guest. At the highest price, the menu includes fresh seafood, abalone and shark fin. Quoc caters six luxurious parties like this each month. “Parties I cater cost more than usual because I pledge not to use salt, sugar, MSG or any other addictives,” Quoc said. Quoc said that other than Australian beef and Japanese abalone, he uses mostly local produce. “I buy vegetables and spices at Ben Thanh Market. There are two stands that sell fresh vegetables from Hoc Mon District. Seafood can be found in Cu Market on Ham Nghi Street. Their prawns, crabs and squid are fresher than those in any other market.” When asked who is willing to pay such a high price for a party, especially in these troubling economic times, Quoc said, “I cannot reveal clients’ information. What I can say is that they are high-class and very gastronomic.” 7. Dining like an emperor, paying like a millionaire Long Dinh restaurant (Hanoi) is renowned for its “golden room,” an unabashedly decadent place that gives its customers the impression of dining in a royal palace. Its gold inlaid tableware sparkle on a perfect white table. But to dine like an emperor does not come cheap – it could cost a person US$1,000, the same as Vietnam’s per capita income. An appetizer like a bird’s nest and crab-roe soup costs $46, bird’s nest and chicken soup is $65, while South African abalone soup comes at $96. “We have 300 dishes here for the equivalent of a few quintals of rice,” a waitress says. Even a small pack of cashew costs VND800,000 ($40). Considering the high prices, you would think few people go there, right? Wrong. Long Dinh is always packed, and one needs to book in advance to get a table.

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club
If u do the same for your GF, she may be impressed.....
Lovesick man kneels for hours to prove love ================================================ A young man was spotted resting on his knees for five hours in front of a mattress shop in Nha Trang city’s To Vinh Dien street last Saturday, piquing the curiosity of people in the neighborhood. “I have come and gone from the street today and I still see him here,” said a motorbike taxi driver. Many passers-by stopped and watched him. Some gave advice, telling him to stand up and go home, but he did not listen. According to newswire VnExpress, the man is a sophomore in business management at Nha Trang University. Recently, his girlfriend broke up with him to concentrate on studies and her future career. The 20-year old man had been trying to call her but couldn’t get through. He believed that the girl was still in love with him, so he decided to kneel down and wait in front of the shop where she worked. “I believe she broke up with me for my sake. By kneeling down like this, I hoped my girlfriend would understand my heart and come back to me,” the desperate young man told the newswire. Sadly, his girlfriend did not show up on that day, since she had quit working at the shop. An assistant from the shop later came out to consult with him and was able to convince him go home after he had been kneeling down for five hours.
