Banh chung makers hurry to welcome Tet

VietNamNet Bridge – As the lunar New Year (Tet) approaches, some suburban villages of Hanoi are very busy making banh chung (square glutinous rice cake) to serve the market.

Banh chung (steamed cake) is a traditional Vietnamese cake which is made from glutinous rice, mung bean, pork and other ingredients. Its origin is told by the legend of Lang Lieu, a prince of the sixth Hung Vuong, who became Hung Vuong’s successor thank to his creation of banh chung and banh day, which symbolized respectively the Earth and the Sky.

Considered an essential element of the family altar on the occasion of Tet, the making and eating banh chung during this time is a well-preserved tradition of Vietnamese people. 　越南幫有合法身分做後盾，在萬華成為一股強大勢力，老闆若對她們不好，團結的越南妹會串連走人，甚至業者 開新店，還要找越南妹「入股」，過去越南妹躲在桃園新竹鄉間坐檯，如今到萬華卻是「呼風喚雨」 ，今非昔比。

　只是「越」女作風大膽又多情，酒客為了追求越南妹，在店內外爭風吃醋、糾纏不清的狀況時有所聞，日前一名 計程車司機為了越女散盡家財，最後憤而殺人，也難怪西門町新店一開幕，就引來警方關注。

Nguyen Hue Flower Street bans cars

All cars have been banned on Nguyen Hue Street while decorations are underway for the next 11 days as the Flower Street readies for Tet.

The flower street will open for visitors at 6am on the 28th day of lunar December and will remain open for seven days till the fourth day of the lunar New Year.

Throughout the seven days that the flower street remains open to public, all vehicles will be banned on the entire stretch of Nguyen Hue Street from Quach Thi Trang Street to the Saigon Opera House.

In related news, the HCMC Department of Transport has approved an investment of VND155 billion (US$8 million) on a project to beautify both sides of the East - West Highway.

Potong Jalan actually refers to cutting into a street so maybe in TV it's "cat duong"
