Re: Top Disco in Bangkok?
LAST CALL
The second of a two-part series rounding up the lifestyle developments in Bangkok during 2004 Story by NICK GROSSMAN Mystique drew hype and crowds in its first months. The year in nightlife and entertainment was marked by new ambitions and grand insecurity. While other Southeast Asian cities thrived, Bangkok remained an unpredicatble platform. Still, creative minds worked hard to keep the scene energised. BANGKOK GETS A BEDTIME Remember, back in February, when the government spoke of midnight closings and strict zoning. Well, it didn't happen. Well, not exactly. Cinderella got an hour's reprieve in 2004 but it wasn't enough to create a storybook ending. Instead, come 1am, everyone at the ball found themselves wide awake, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and begging for one more. "Please, just one more." Unfortunately, Daddy said it's time to go to bed. By the end of 2004, it seems the new culture of 1am closings is firmly established and reluctantly accepted by bars and party-goers alike (except those who sneak out the window to the after-hours bars). These days, if you look at your watch and it's 1:20am, you are pathetically excited. "Hey Mom! Look at me! It's 1:20am and I'm still dancing!" Anxiety about random raids and drug tests put the fear into party-goers in 2004, not because they were afraid of getting caught with drugs, but because they didn't want to be caught in a club without music until 3am while the authorities literally took the pee from everyone on the premises, only to walk away with one 40-year-old balding Dutch tourist who had the gall to leave his passport in his hotel room. UNCHARTERED WATERS Hu'U was one of a handful of major new bars to try their luck in Bangkok. With new, more sophisticated bars like Code, RCA made a solid comeback, defying its teeny-bopper image. The effect of this haphazard, intermittent and always unexplained crackdown was significant. It was a terrible year for new bars to establish themselves in Bangkok. While Mystique made a big splash in the first half of the year, it was only creating ripples by year's end. Into these unchartered waters others (Liquid Lounge, Code and Hu'U) dove headfirst and ended up looking wet behind the ears. More experienced clubs, benefitting from more loyal followings, realised that they needed to think outside the box to keep people coming out. Q Bar hosted some of the year's best gigs by lining up quality, affordable acts such as Kid Koala (arguably the best show of the year) and Jungle Brothers, among others. Finding success in the soaring popularity of hip-hop in the capital, Q Bar also hosted an open mic battle rapping contest that should prove to be a popular annual event. Similarly, Bed Supperclub, with a series of hit or miss events, continued to show that it's the most eclectic and inventive host in town. The monthly Rehab gigs continue to be one of the capital's most lively nights and its Tuesday hip-hop nights are as jammed as ever. There were a good amount of quality one-off gigs put on by a range of clubs around town. Songkran, for instance, saw Paul Oakenfold (Narcissus), Miguel Migs (Bed) and Brian Molko (Met Bar) all within a span of one week, while Jose Padilla chilled out the Sukhothai. One can only hope clubs will continue to take risks on such names. SCENE STEALERS DJ Kid Koala at Q Bar was one of the gigs of the year. Unique, alternative acts were more common this year at clubs around town. The best news from 2004 was the ongoing development of the Indie music scene, which continues to be spurred by innovative individuals willing to take risks with both their money and time to support both local and regional talent. (These bands actually play their own songs!). The highlight was the Soi Musical Festival, which was a musical exchange between Tokyo and Bangkok acts. The iHear and Dude Sweet events were also successful and well-organised. Ratchada Soi 4 also continues to maintain an interesting buzz and RCA, yes RCA, gets the award for comeback of the year. With many of the old teeny-bopper haunts closed down, the infamous strip has become the unlikely source of Indie fun, with Code bar, Prop bar, and House movie theatre all opening their doors. As RCA is also home to a Fuji restaurant, Go-Kart speedway, bowling alley, and supermarket, they might as well add a chocolate factory to the mix and rename it Stoner Heaven. Looking ahead, 2005 may be the year of indie, though the scene needs more venues to express its artistic and cultural voice. FORECAST FOR 2005 Gene of electro-punk outfit Futon at Fat Festival IV. The indie scene continued to find more support and events for its emerging voice in 2004. Trends: Stetsons, cowboy boots and line dancing take Khao San bars by storm. Concerts: The fifth annual Fat Festival _ this time held inside a hedge maze _ goes off without a hitch or a punch thrown. Social order: New ADD ("Anti-Decibel and Drug") raid measures require party-goers to scream into a microphone while urinating into a cup. If your face turns blue, you get a 50,000 baht fine. Movies: Prince Chatrichalerm Yukol, the same director who took four years to complete 'Suriyothai', starts shooting his new historical epic 'Naraesuan', reportedly with a 500-million-baht budget. Midway through production, he announces he needs more money to make 2009 release date. Bars: New hotel bar breaks the 300-baht barrier on regular cocktails. Small Heinekens are only 220 baht.

Re: Top Disco in Bangkok?
Just want to update a bit on the local disco scene recently, there are 2 place that I will recommand now and theey are "BOOZE" located in Thong Lor Soi 10 and be therte on a friday nite cos recently the amount of "sui cha bor" is fanscinating. Somtimes there are mini concerts by local artisties and the ppl there are mostly working class so it's good for bros who want to find a working professional lady.
As the other 1 is "PUMP UP" along ratchada rd just beside the recent fun theme park partially owned by Taksin's son. This is a hip hop joint with young and vibrant babes and recently a lot of "high society ppl" are hanging around there so make sure to make yourself there on a saturday nite. Good Luck for all cheonging! |

Re: Top Disco in Bangkok?
There is one Retro Dicso at end of Langsuan Rd where many locals and several foreigners patronise. If you are into retro music, you might want to check out that place. Opposite the disco, there is this famous Thai Teochew chinese restaurant specialised in duck dishes. Go check it out if you have the chance.

I think you're referring to 70s Bar. This is the place for more "High soc" youngsters which they like to hang around with their friends. The design of the pub is very nice and trendy. |

Re: Top Disco in Bangkok?
There's a new disco just open yesterday and it's named X9. The concept of the disco is abt the same like hollywood, the exterior design is a bit beng but the interior is much more cosy. It's situated just beside Param 9 cafe(famous for jokes performance)and it's also owned by the owner of Param 9 cafe. The dancers there are much more prettier than those in hollywood and dance fever, I guess cos it's new and also they are some babes available for xxx too as my friend who is the manager of the place told me so.
So whoever is dropping by Bangkok for this weekend can give a try and hopefully have a good catch over the weekend! ขอให้จีบสาวได้เยอะๆ WISH YOU CAN GET AS MUCH BABES AS POSSIBLE! |
