hmm...so many times to slim also no show passport....same sign outside Route 66 too but no need show passport too...just show my malaysian ID card only.
I jus speak Thai:
Pii, khor thod krup, phom tham ngan thee nee, mai dai ao passport maa duay krup. = Senior, sorry, I work here, I did not bring my passport along.
Of cos smile when say this.... always smile in Thailand... I think the key factor is always the smile and ability to speak some Thai
Yeah they also insist passport, sometimes show driving license ok,,.. sometimes pretend and show Platimum card also ok.. if still cannot use this last trick...
my passport is always Purple Colour with a very well known person's Photo at the front.... " pass ser port Ler..?? deaw pom hai doo.... deaw gorn".. and he will keep my passport forever.. luckily I got more than one of those......
does not always work though, once i was rejected but dun worry.. just go round the back and there's a back door entrance, it will take you near the gents toilet.. no prob.
me and my friends been to bkk for 5 nights and we chiong-ed RCA Route 66 for 3 nights. For all 3 nights, we showed just our sg driving license and there was no problems at all! The bouncer even recognised us on the 3rd night and he let us in without even requesting to show our identity cards. lol
u shown ur passport because u saw the sign outside Slim saying "foreigners need show passport" and not because the guys at the entries asked for it right? So obedience....
Alot of times, smiling can pull u out of awkward and difficult situations in Thailand....
Actually i don remember seeing any signage...Sometimes they ask for my passport, sometimes I "Auto mode" show to them. Anyway, I used to bringing my passport along leow...Ok I will smile harder next time...
wah so many tricks to use....ok next time i also dun use passport, try all these methods first if really cannot going in from toilet sounds like a plan!
although i m not an advocate of backdoor entry but this situation calls for it. passport really too precious to bring out and lose...

I kanna question before during last year during a police spot check when I showed my work permit and the policeman asked me why didn't I bring my passport and I "HARN" him back by asking was his id no so that I could verify with his superior. Immediately he backed off, actually foreigners do have an advantage over police but of course don't over abuse it lah!
ya, cos the police dun know who they dealing with and they worry some foreigners might really know some big shot especially those working in Embassies. But mus also give them face lah.... also must smile when "harn" them... hehehe...

Actually passport or no passport not very big issue leh... but if u bring out ur passport and lost it, its definetly very troublesome. U need to go report to Thai police at the area to get police report then go S'pore Embassy to report and seek help. Probably also have to reschedule ur flight back home and extend another day or 2. Those with travel insurance still ok, can claim.......
Never bring passport, sometimes u jus need to act blur and tcss with them a while, and they'll let u in.... however, if u wear slippers and wanna go into RCA or some pubs in Thonglor/Ekkamai.... even regulars also cannot help.
Did the bouncers at the entry asked for ur passport? Cos normally, I jus show my driving license like the Thai showing their ID card... and of cos smile like normal as if i'm regular there.
i've been to RCA a couple of times. route66 n slim. weekdays n weekends. crowded or not. everytime i'll just walk up whip out my singapore license n asked " dai mai?" with a very big smile. even during the so called "anti sgp feelings" period. everytime i was allowed in w/o any probs. the bouncers mostly even return the smile. (u wouldnt see any in sgp) i personally believe the smile works. have fun everyone!
I think showing of passport is quite cock.. I'm not sure the real reason is to show we're not illegal immigrant (as if illegal immigrant will go cheong), or to prove we're of legal age (which we can use our ID card to prove our birth dates).

that's rite...lugging passport around is akin to those newbie farangs in Sukhumvit who tend to lug their big luggage (which probably included everything except their kitchen sink) when they go to bars. That always cracked me up.
I think most bros must be damn worried when they hear or see "passport" but in reality, an ID (IC or driving licence) is enough. I always show my IC only at RCA or other outlets and had no problems. Was once stopped by traffic policeman and I showed him my IC and he beat me up.

"Dai mai?"with a smile is not as easily churned out by me as "Kuah simi lanjiao?" with a diao.

A good one from you bro, but according to the thai law the police can detain any foreigners without their passport with any suspecting motives. If you even kanna any high ranking kwai lan policeman then have to be careful. But luckily we are still SINGAPOREANS which are different from those third world countries residents who are often taken advantage by the police.
