Here's a small contrib. In the old days, there used to be funfairs around HDB areas. Not the pasar malams, but real fun fairs with small rides, game stalls, music stalls selling pirated cassettes, etc. This was always in a big open field which were plentiful because the HDB estates were not so built-up.
