Arb nam song khun??

You are right on budget airline, must contribute to their positive cash-flow by paying months in advance (for promo deals). Then if they cancel flights, LL wait for refund or change trip to Timor Leste

Nok Air goes Don Mueng, maybe other budget airlines too. Bad for connections across other end city?!

Yup, at Suvarnabhumi only Bangkok airways, Thai airways and Air Asia flys to CNX, previously only Bangkok and Thai. Price for Nok Air wasnt a great difference compare with Bangkok airways. Unless you intend to stay at Bangkok for a night or two otherwise I think Bangkok Airway and Thai airways are ideal to cnx from Bangkok.

Everynow and then these two flight will have promo to other region of Thailand, price not too bad thru.

Hi Chiang Mai Seniors,
I'm a newbie for Chiang Mai scene and need some advice from fellow seniors. So please bear with me, Kam Xia.

In mid May, I have a farang friend that will be holding his wedding in Chiang Mai with his Thai ger friend. I was trying to get flights (cheapest and timing good wan) but seems there's only Air Asia that flied direct from SG. And the timing is lousy.

How is the best way to fly (connection or not is OK) interms of price and timing? Thank you for your gracious help.

Another thing is, how do they local Thais do their wedding? in hotel and in the evening like what we do in SG or otherwise? Any idea what locals give as gifts to the couple? Sorry as I berry blur in Thailand scenes....

Pai say, pai say!

Come after 21/5, NO more AAsia direct Sg/CNX. So only Silkair (not daily) direct. Check website if got deals well ahead.

Only other option is via Bkk, fly domestic connection (but careful not old Don Muang airport across other end of city!). Sg/Bkk sector cheap option is Mynmar Air (276), then plenty choice on AAsia, TG, Bkk Airways to CNX. TG connection is approx thb2.4k (1 way).

Also can fly Sg/Bkk on budget AA, Tiger, Jetstar and CX (370). If you check SQ, got promo (restricted dates) for 328 between April - May/June.

As for wedding bit, maybe our mountain bro Nonteerak can impart his wisdom

You can't get the best out of both worlds.

If u r price cautious, then take bus from BKK. The road from BKK to Chiangmai is smooth. Will take you about 12-16 hrs.

If u r time cautious of cause by direct flight else another option is to take domestic BKK to Chiang Mai. There are more than 20 flights a day by various airlines.

If your farang friend is following Thai culture, then early in the morning will be all the Thai buddhist ceremony... in the evening will be dinner. Now depends on the budget, some will have dinner in the restaurant/hotel, some will be in the village.

Again depending on budget and location, red packet or gift. Gift, u can check with the marrying couples, what they need.

Hi Bro Naemlo, once again thanks for the info. He is an American single (divorced) and re-marrying. Likely that he will follow the wife side and do the Thai culture style. I will ask him on it to be on the safe side.

Appreciate all bros help and feedback info.

Kam Xia...

Re: Infos on Chiang Mai

Ya, cheapest is to get promo on full service flight and fly to cnx via Bangkok airways. Remember to give yourself some allowance at least about 3 hours or so for the domestic flight, and from my experience never take CX to Bangkok, unless the domestic flight you taking is 4 hours away. Price estimated for about 400 plus sin, if you manage to get promo full service flight to Bangkok.

As for wedding, I think bro Naemlo already mentioned, red packet, similar like Chinese style wedding. By the way, sometimes your friend wife to be may be a Christian, so they may hold their wedding at church rather then calling the monks to run the Thai tradition marriage ritual. So prepare to see sao sao during the night of the wedding, as normally when a Thai marrys a thanachart, grand dinner or lunch will takes place after the ritual of the marriage, and in your friend case since he is a farang I'm 90% sure.

Bangkok to Phuket is about 14 hours by coach.
I took before.

Actually sometimes take coach is more relaxing than taking plane especially with night schedule.
By day break you'll reach your destination.
You still have to sleep everyday.
Might as well wake up to your destination.
