Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update
Bro simonsim
I understand that you don't need another person to open or "introduce" you to open an FD account in Malaysia. Just bought my s'porean friend to open their FD (in Maybank & Hong Leong) in late April 05. The only thing you need to note that for any s'porean or individual foreigner, you cannot deposit more than RM10,000 per day in the same bank. Note my "per day" & "same bank". However, you can go to different bank & deposit there. Or unless you travel to Malaysia every day, then you might want to deposit in the same bank. Hope this help. |

Sorry forget to add. Unless you want to deposit more than RM10,000, then you need another person (Malaysian) to joint-account with you. |

Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update
My Singaporean friend told me that he once want to open an saving account at May Bank at City Square. The counter girl told him, saving account is only for the local (Bumis) and Malaysian citizens. She rejected his application.
How about other banks. Is there any ways to open a saving account for non-Malaysian in Malaysia Banks. Is an good savings cum investment. Every times when the rate are high, I can simply exchange some Malaysian currency and deposit it into the bank there............................................. .................rather than exchange and deposit into HCs expenditure.................................hehehe .

One clarification though - if i want to deposit say RM 50,000 - that means I must joint account with another Malaysian or must I place RM 10,000 on Monday then another RM10,000 on tuesday until Fri or I have to spread to five local Malaysian banks with $10,000 FD each. Please advise. Thanks again.

Yes, you are right. If you are not going to have a joint-account with another Malaysian, with the same bank (e.g. MayBank), Monday to Friday (RM 10,000 each day). Make sure you trust that Malaysian friend of yours, as he can also withdraw your money, if he happens to get hold of your deposit voucher (or slip). Else on the same day, you can go to 5 different banks to deposit RM10,000 each. |

Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update
Bro gigantic_tk
Maybank's counter girl explaination puzzles me at times too. My wife (malaysian) & I wanted to open a joint-account (savings), and were told that we have to come back another day (i.e. must make an appointment in advance). Anyway no problem, as we goes in quite often. The following week, when we went in & ask another staff, he (this time is a he), told us - no need, can open on the spot. Anyway, back to your query, I have yet to open or ask about savings account (for individual s'porean). My reply to Bro simonsim, is opening a FD, which I brought my 2 S'porean friends & open it - on the spot. Except 1 of my friend, a bit more $$$, have to go over to Hong Leong (across the road-back to Ocean) and open another FD (note Hong Leong FD is a combination of FD & Investment type), ask clearly before putting your $$$ there. Hope this help. |

Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update
No idea which bank has the highest FD or savings rate. Guess you can go over to the 4 banks (I think there's 4 banks near to each other across the causeway).
