Notice how when he jump for a ball, a lot of times the referee will blow for a foul jump. Not only he can't head the ball well, the way he challenges for a header when closely marked by a defender is not acceptable to a lot of referees. He uses his arms to lift himself in a weird way.

So far all the talks have been on Torres, Villa, but none of them actually have play outside la liga, its not that they are lousy players, but adapting to other league can be tough, especially EPL being so competitive.....or tough, just like Morientes, who was scoring goals prior coming to Liverpool, but he cant seem to buy a goal for us.....

Now that Barca have signed Henry, likely Gudjohnson should be available, I always thought he did reasonably well during his time in Chelsea, I guess he might be another option. Tall, strong player. just my humble opion.

Atletico say no Reds Torres offer

Torres scored 14 goals last season for Atletico
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says Liverpool have not tabled a bid for striker Fernando Torres.
Champions League finalists Liverpool have been closely linked with the 23-year-old Spain international.

"We've had no offer from Liverpool for Torres," said Cerezo. "He's on his holiday and resting.

"I repeat that there has been nothing about Torres from any team. We're now working to create a good team for the coming year," added Cerezo.

Torres, 23, scored 14 league goals in 36 starts this season as Atletico finished seventh in La Liga.

The Spanish international's Atletico contract runs until 2009.

Torres came up though the youth ranks at Atletico and has been their leading scorer in each of the last five seasons.

I had my doubt about him too but with the likes of Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and AC Milan are all competing to obtain the services of the young striker. I think he should be quite good.

torres is a low ball player, highly skilled in short passes and deadly one twos. he was voted best player by the weekly la liga 1-hour highlights show several times during the last 2 seasons, mostly scoring wonderful goals from beautiful short passes with his team mates. the element of surprise and breathtaking counter strikes are torres' specialised weapons.

liverpool will usually keep safe possession, beef up the midfield before launching attacks. in fact many teams in epl do that, blame it on the tough defensive strategies used by managers. and you know about the constant long balls and crossess in epl, raul can score with headers and volleys, and david villa can work with anything.

i think morientes is a strong player with great shot power and although he isnt the type to unlock defences, he could have done better for liverpool if he was luckier with his finishings (he got into many good goal scoring positions as a striker should).

rafa signed crouch to put in the touch that will send the ball into the net. and who knows, maybe liverpool's style of play will have a new and improved look with the young and dashing fernando torres next season.

Sounds fine to me, we are a counter-attacking team, the fact that we play it safe at the back is precisely so we can counter attack quickly. Raul I feel is over the hill and not one for our future, while Villa, well, didn't he have a 100m release clause or something?

Atletico fans revolt as Torres move nears

Atletico Madrid are facing a fans' revolt over the likely sale of striker Fernando Torres to Liverpool.


Talks between the two clubs over a potential £25million move for the Spanish international have taken place between officials.


But the Madrid club are facing a backlash from their own supporters, unhappy at the prospect of their idol being sold to the Champions League finalists.

Atletico fans have staged a protest in a Madrid square against the sale of the 23 year-old, a youth product of the club who has constantly professed his love for the team he has supported since childhood.

That pressure is likely to delay any deal at least until the player returns from holiday on July 10.

And Atletico will now be even more determined to extract every last penny from Liverpool, so that they can sell the deal to their fans as having got best possible financial outcome.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has insisted no official bid has been made by Liverpool and the Merseysiders may now have to wait for Torres to return to pre-season training in the hope he will force the issue then by declaring that he wants to move to Anfield.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's own agent is believed to be attempting to broker the deal, with the Anfield chief needing to produce some genuine movement in his transfer deals before the team return to training at the beginning of July, ahead of their first pre-season friendly at Wrexham on July 7.

Officials also say they are unaware of any clause in Torres' contract entitling the player to 10% of any transfer fee, despite reports to the contrary.

As well as Torres, it is believed that Benitez's has other targets include PSV striker Arouna Kone, Ajax's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Diego Milito at Real Zaragoza.

Liverpool's first group of players report back to Melwood tomorrow for pre-season training.

Missing, however, will be Emiliano Insua and new signing Lucas Leiva, who take part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup which opens in Canada this weekend.

Insua is in the Argentina squad, while summer signing Leiva is an integral member of Brazil's team. The 24-nation tournament runs from Saturday until July 22.

Argentina are defending their crown and kick-off their campaign on Saturday against the Czech Republic in Ottawa. Brazil's tournament starts five hours earlier against Poland in Montreal.
