Re: Philippines, Olongapo City

Wow man u rock. U r aware of the CalaPandayan bars as well?

Those bars dun mk as much.

Guess thts why they need to scam any stranger they see?

After the Americans got booted out the inflow of dollars has been stymied largely.

The economy now runs on HONORABLE JOBS in retail, Manufacturing, callcentre, clerical etc. these jobs in the PI context r lower paying.

As we r well aware, jobs need to be up in the Value Chain to rake in the $.

The PI does not lack in brains. But guess they r using their grey matter in the easiest possible way to rake in the moolah.<< read scams/corruption>>

Only time this will not happen is if you go with a local themselves and they sit with you.
They once told me a price for the drinks and when it came time to pay bill it was DOUBLED. When you complain you will be surrounded by a few nasty looking guys. So beware of drink and BF scams at many local places. Stick with the Barrio bars only if you are not with locals or at least speak the language. No rip offs at any of the AngMo owned bars. Just a word of warning for those not in the know. Hope this helps.

Re: Philippines, Olongapo City

I cheong regularly in LOS but have never visited the Phillippines yet.
I intend to make my 1st trip to the Phillippines this coming August holidays.
I have not decided where to go.
Amongst these places, which is most suitable for a newbie?
Manila, Cebu, Subic or Angeles?

Input and advice most appreciated.

TQ

Re: Philippines, Olongapo City

My humble suggestion is Angeles.. Its like a adult theme park.. all the rides are in one place - and it is easy to get to and the variety is plenty. Also not as expensive compared to Manila. For a first timer, I would suggest Angeles and you will be a regular soon!

Good advise and great use of the term theme park with many rides.

Just to add . Try to fly into Clark. Hook up with the regulars if possible.

Re: Philippines, Olongapo City

Boat collector, fantastic piece of advice. I dun think anyone can describe AC better.

You can live ur dreams and fantasy in AC.

As long as u take reasonable commonsense precaution AC is as safe or as bad as any other cheong destination.

My 1st choice would be Cebu... Manila is expensive place... Angeles is becoming like Danok where runners and chai-tohs are getting more common... Subic is a very nice place but only during the "in" season... off season is from Jun- Nov and the place is like a ghost town.

You make your choice.

Fully agree that the experts in Pasay cheonging would be more able to help you in the Manila thread.

Simple me use Pasay more as a in transit point with the videokes and short time girls and of course the short time hotels.

Pasay is few minutes away from the airport and usually being kiasu, I will arrive near the airport too early. With a few hours to spare, I rather hang out at the videokes and maybe take a ST before going to the airport. (70p taxi, 40p trike and 5 minutes). Beats waiting at the airport for flight time.

At the videokes I been offered going VIP but never wanted to try cos I don want to experiment in surroundings like those. About 700p and that's supposed to be do anything you want. Satisfaction guaranteed. No thanks. Maybe others have some experiences to share.

Re: Smart Prepaid Roaming Activation

For those who want to be cheaply contactable by your Smart cel contacts after u return to Sg or My....

Activate roaming for your Smart prepaid sim card by sending txt ROAM ON to 333. Need to have more then 100p load balance on activation. You can go below 100p after activation.

Do remember to deactivate when you return to Philippines. Txt ROAM OFF to 333. 1p load needed. If not, you can still txt but no calls.
