You honestly think 700k is a lot of money? It is sizeable but not a lot anymore. The last few years of QE has made the world a horrible place to live in with inflation going crazy. Last time we SG bros can "hong" girl with a house with lets say 200-300k. Now PRC some places 1 Mil or more. How many 1 Mill bullets u have sia?

Agree! My parents worked their whole life, yet they never even smell 100k, let alone 700k. I'll need to work dunno how many donkey years to smell 700k.

Let me help with the myopia. The next time you move around sg, look around you. For every commercial building you see, there is an owner. For every business you see, an owner. For every condo block you see, hundreds of owners who forked out >$1m each. Look around you to get a better understanding of the society we now live in. If my existence upsets you, I have news. There are hundreds of thousands like me around.

Don't forget, 80% of the local population live in HDB flats. Every condo block you see only represents 19% of the population. For every person living comfortably in a condominium, 4 people live in HDB flats.

Right now I c a number of factors that will reveal in time

1. Health of your parents. Are they covered?
2. You and your wife's employability if you are over 40
3. Your kids education
4. Your kids future mistake. Think Amos Yee
5. Your families health and coverage

we can't make your current state of things look better but do know it can do a lot worse. You are caught here since it wasn't planned for.

Bite the bullet and build towards planning those scenarios in for your future and be thankful you can still breathe

It's the other way round. I've seen many animals behave better than humans.

Anyway, with regards to this thread, I think enough people have spoken up, it's not that we're disagreeing with TS that the cost of living isn't constantly going up. It's just that while TS is complaining about cost of living, saying he's a middle income fella, he's actually hiding a lot of other facts about himself, and that he's not actually an average income family / average assets family.

That he's comparing himself to people way above his league (yes, there are rich people everywhere, some earning millions a month, but if we're talking about middle income people, why bring up multimillionaire landlords?).

Threads don't go nowhere. They are vehicles for an exchange of ideas and viewpoints. When everyone who wants to has had his say, the thread will die a natural death. That's how it is with all discussions both on line and in the real world.

However, what we gather from reading a good thread can be extremely useful in time to come.
