I do feel that Filipinas are great company, probably cos they do speak English pretty well, plus their mentality is to give you EVERYTHING -- with the caveat that you give everything back as well .. so it is somewhat like a double edged sword. Initially you should be careful but with time, you would learn what to look out for and what not to do, which places are ok to go and which places you should avoid even during the day ... and I suppose you would have to make a few mistakes before you can get good experiences. Hopefully those mistakes aren't too costly though! If you're looking for more than just a FJ, or a warm body at night plus don't want the feeling that the "relationship" (if you can call it that) is purely transactional, you can definitely find that here in Manila and the rest of the PI. But as with all things, do go in with both eyes wide open... and your wallet close and closed.. lol Never really had an issue with hand carry meds though, and I am always bringing meds in my hand carry, but they are usually run of the mill anti-cough / cold / fever meds and in reasonably low quantity for personal usage, hence that's easily explained. |

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati
Hi, any bros who recently went to MNL, can advise if the customs still check strictly on the 10000 peso limit upon entry at the airport?

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati
belowthebelt: your post sounded like a "GAY CALL" TOILET ? hahaa
bbailey: you are missing the point. When I did a three day stop in Manila in March, I was still asked for "GOT PESO ?? " 10,000 or not, Bureau of Customs and all in the Airport has a strict mandate by the esteemed "corruption is no more in Philippines" president .. > RELIEVE FOREIGNERS OF TOO MUCH MONEY !! So .. regardless the law exists or not .. don't push your luck Oh, in reality, that silly 10,000 peso law is a fuck-all law and will never be removed, else the BoC and BI has no excuse to steal your cash. Best, take 9,000 peso, and some $ and withdraw on local ATMs, as much as possible .. and do max withdrawal to limit the withdrawal fee issue .. Alternate, a bit risky but cheaper method - remit to yourself, in Western Union and when you reach there, withdraw it .. though most WU outlets have a ring of watchers .. Tread carefully

Etsys points are valid - you can easily withdraw money if you need more or change SGD -> PHP at most money changers. WU has quite a high service charge, but the outlets are everywhere so it is a good options as well. Yea Etsys, they just impeached Chief Justice Corona which made headlines the world over, for being unable to explain the USD$4 million equivalent he has in his accounts. Hooray for no corruption! |

Re: phillipines, manaila, makati
icekoleong: Traffic Jam ? the whole of manila is nothing but a jam town .. the bellboy was lying to possibly push his own lobang
Take a taxi and smell the world .. haha bolsterposter: i well, they impeached the CJ, but it was a mockery of justice. The Lawyers and judges are is about intepreting the law, the law as defined by the congress / senate / constitution. And they must not let emotional judgements precede .. after all, why is the lady justice Blind ? because she doesn't let emotions run amock. If the law was being misread, fix the law, well, the same Foreign Currency Deposit law that was put in place by none other than Cory to safeguard her and her cronies' wealth .. ill-gotten and otherwise .. Here, before the impeachment, it was decided to convict the CJ and while there was no proof of any plunder, the impeachment court convicted him of lying, when, in essence, he was already convicted before due process. And that too,in the face of a dozen charges, most turned out to be wild allegations, and working true kid-court style "prove I am wrong or you are wrong .. " .. and out of which the senators choose just one charge to convict, considering the decision was made long ago, and well, they were properly 'taken care of' .. And show me who among the judges was clean ? JPE ? Marcos Enforcer ? Then the Navy man who lead the coup - a crime which is punishable by death anywhere ... except in Philippines where the guy becomes a Senator. And the man who disappeared from law when he had a criminal murder case against him and travelled on forged passport and promptly returned when the case was dropped - more or less that happened when Prez Aquino assumed power. And the man who had enough cases for spousal abuse, who's wife, went on TV and with the husband's gun pointing at her, recanted her accusations .. (with even the camera crew being witness but dare not challenge .. ) and then she hanged herself .. And the rest, who are all descendants of some or other family politicians, who have no right to call themselves "CLEAN" and the only reason they get elected is due to the blind faith and hero-worshipping - Philippine style - 'they cannot be wrong, since they are from well known families .. " - from the Cayetanos to Loren Legarda to .. well .. Marcos .. The 3.5 million peso spent was for the pomp and glamour and showboating of the senator Judges .. heck, they, in true filipino style, chose the colour of the judges coats as well .. and spent more money even deciding who should sit where .. and then, beyond belief, paid for the Basa Sisters and brother to appear in court, all paid by the senators, to taunt and harass the CJ .. on top of letting the Basa Sisters and Brother sit in VIP area .. In my eyes, there is no proof or evidence that CJ is a thief - he concealed his wealth, and truly, knowing in Philippines the moment somebody knows you got money, how many death / kidnapping squads set out to relieve you of your wealth - heck, even in banks, why do they bar people from using mobiles ? the moment somebody sees you withdrawing say 10,000 peso, a quick message is sent out to relieve you of your hard earned money, including one instance where one girl worked in Singapore for a year, saved just over 30,000 peso and when she was in Philippines, went to the bank to withdraw and pay the property people to buy the house, she was promptly relieved of her hard earned money. Here, I just see a farce and mockery of justice and an attempt to remove the CJ's money .. Well, corruption ? what about more than half the senators who own property in Singapore, US and all over the world ? Did they declare in their SALN ? Well, they don't in case they become targets of kidnapping attempt. Read up on antipinoy.com - there is a great write up of why the CJ only has so little money - and as per the Senators justification, almost all OFWs must be convicted of hoarding money - hoarding, which is a serious crime, which you can redeem yourself from by putting the money in banks run by oligarchs so the oligarchs can relieve the savings off the hard working people, and get away with it -- only in Philipines can you start a bank, transfer the deposits to another business of yours and then declare the bank and insolvent and then promptly close it down, and well, most if not all people will actually SYMPATHISE with you for your business loss .. not figuring out the scam you pulled .. Scams like that Happens, and will happen, and will not be stopped from happening. and the people will happily put up with it .. Not Welcome to the Philippines !!!!!!!! This corruption on the largest scale .. and the day they get rid of the government system and introduce the Parliamentary system is the day things will get better - oh, wait, guess who tried to do that and remove the power of the pompous senators and congressmen ? GMA !!!!!!!!! And look where she is .. Sorry for my long rant .
