Was at my lawyer's office yesterday and I happened to ask her about such cases. Though I did not talk about the offence, I did say is there any chance for them to appeal for early release if the immigration offender has been sentenced to jail for a year. Success rate depends on case to case and my lawyer does do this kind of cases. Some success some failure.

First off, a simple question:

What is the "big thailand" (泰大） and "small thailand"（泰小）means in terms of nationality? One ex-WL told me she is born in the "big thailand" and is a Thai and not Myanmise (spell?). But she holds a passport that read "Union Of Myanmar" - she says her family lives on the border of the two. I suppose this has lots of implication on her wishful thought of marrying a Singaporean or worst still, eventually living in Singapore... (I've read all the caveats in earlier posts, which I'll update her once I gather all the facts)

To add to siamcutey's comment ... she's probably from Shan state in Myanmar. And if she lives near the border of thailand, she probably speak a myanmese dialect that's different from regular "burma" people. Myanmar is very much a militant country, with very little influences from the military in these far-off places. ('cept at the china border)

These people very different from regular myanmese, different chinese accent (and rare), different myanmese tone (more thai like, softer, regular burmese much louder). Go northern Shan and you'll meet the fairer of them, beautiful people there.

Regular myanmese are mostly very conservative, other than these group living in their supposed "bigger thailand" that kenna tainted by those dirty minded thai ... .

but, on top of all these differences, ask her don't kid herself. I know a girl like that before in Yangon and would say these people are more fun, but very different.

PS: Oh, and her written language probably myanmese. Ask her, she'll know. Myanmese kids wear a medium darkish green skirt/shorts with white shirt to school, heh heh.
