You had been a carrot-head.. and a big one too but you are definitely not the last one as there will be many more guys who would do such senuous-les, uh, i mean senseless, things! Most singapore guys who try to brave the scene on Hanoi from square-1 will invariably go through this painful phase and it could even be a prolonged agony one.

Let me relate a story here... in the beginning, when I was there, after paying lots of school fees and got into lots of black shops traps, finally i am armed with some good locations and places to cheong but still cannot speak good Tieng Viet. And then I was talking to some senior engineers who are local Hanoi people working in my local partner office. These guys seems quite seasoned in their cheonging. So i asked them if they could bring me to some fun places such as a good karaoke. By that time, I was proudly riding around on a rented motorbike and know most of the main roads.

So this guy tell me I have definitely come to the right place and asked the right person.. so he says.."tonight 7pm, meet me here". Me and 1 more friend arrived, met up with him. He took us on another 30 minutes motorbike ride to meet his Si-Fu who is the Lau Tar of cheonging in Hanoi and knows the bosses of good joints and can get good ladies specially arranged... then we went from his Si-Fu place to the final destination thru another 30 minutes of bumpy motorbike ride... finally reach a dimly lit place. Boss can out to greet si-fu, was sort of asking why so long never come and what wind blows him here tonight..(we guess)... bring us to a dirtly and noisy air-con and rotten sofa room with karaoke system not really working with broken membrane on the speakers... being foreigner guest.. we just smiled and pretend everything is fine and we are excited so far.. then the girls appear.. all kampong and still got mud patch on their face.. so we anyhow take one each and they took theirs also and we pretend to sing for 30 minutes and then say we got to leave bcos still got work to do back in hotel. We asked for the billed.. and the amount was like VND1.2mil, which we paid without blinking the eye and then gave tips to the girl and prepared to leave... and the engineer friend and si-fu was insisting they want to help us arrange nha-nghi to screw the girls which we gently and finally forcibily rejected...

The truth of the matter is that we could have gone to some other places and paid a lower price and enjoyed a lot more. Not many locals know where is the best cheong places unless they are businessmen themselves, and even businessmen in the north, most could not even afford a decent shirt to wear.. think about this.. an engineer salary is very low, how could they afford to explore to know what is good!???

I reached until the end of the entire post and then that line just struck me. Yah hor! How would they know? Anh Deptrai, yours has to be the most ultimate of KTVs. Nha que girls with mud on their faces! Laughed like mad. Was this in HN or in the countryside?

But you know what? Having all these war stories is part of the fun. Exploring and being an occasional carrot is part of the process. In fact, I've grown quite attached to:

1. Girls with too much make up and an accent from only goodness knows where in VN. ( I learnt my Tieng Viet from the North, cannot understand Saigonese/ Mekong dialects)

2. Sofas that make you think better of those in Sg's Salvation Army donation bin.

3. Towels in packets for VND 5,000 a piece. Fruit platters at around VND100,000 and lousy unchilled can beer for 25,000 a can.

4. Toilets where the door cannot lock and toilet cannot flush.

5. Stairs to KTV rooms that threaten to collapse under my weight.

6. Aircons that smell like body odour.

7. Taxi drivers that harass you after you walk out with a chick.

8. Most of all, the quiet walk at 1am after doing your deed in spring/autumn in HN.

9. Then get damned hungry and find supper. Hot chao is best in the wee hours of cold mornings.

I think you referring to girls in Mask 51 izzit!?? Can understand after you eat enough chao luoi from the south.

beer in good KTV is now VND30,000. Of course comes with a lot of ice at no additional charge.

Whether door can lock or not i usually dun know bcos i dun even bother to close the door so that while i pee, still can read the lyrics and continue singing.

What is ur weight!??? if more than 90, then begin to worry, otherwise should be very safe. The wood they used in Vietnam is usually good quality ones. The worst there is better than the average that you can get here.

I walked out of a restaurant at mid-day, left 1 chic, right 1 chic, both holding my hands and showing half-ball, walked past taxi drivers and instead of harassing me they look more like want to come out and punch my face to stealing their beautiful vietnamese girls!

This point pls becarful. Once at 1am i was sitting at the lake side with a pretty girl and 4 patrolling police on 2 motorbikes armed with AK47 came up to harass us. I showed my NRIC so they know I am foreigner and cannot touch me even but they start to threathen the girl and want to arrest her for hanging out with a foreigner so late at night. So i told them cut the crap and gave them VND100k each and they let us go.

Such things will not happened in HCMC but in Hanoi, still like that try not to walk around after midnight with cute chics in your hands.
