I already returned to Singapore from Batam (yesterday last 2nd ferry,saw another friend taking the last ferry). Before 2359, 16th March 2020. Safe and sound.

Horizon Ferry was 70% full, more than a dozen was in Business class. Many grumbling Singaporean.

Temperature scan occurs at Harbour Bay ferry terminal, in fact Grand Batam Mall also do temperature scan too.

Exchange rate was 10350/SGD in most of the money changers. 1 or 2 of them offers 10400/SGD.

I thought the new says it was chosen becos that area already have electricity and water supply pipe etc pre-built, hence its ideal for a living area for a hospital. No need build all these all over again if they were to chose another area/place.

Fx is going at 10620/SGD as of this post but in the open market's money changer in Batam can only change 10400/SGD at best.

I think the reason is becos many money changer were unable to sell their remainder in rupiah when they bought it earlier at higher price.

Luckily didnt change much extra this time round.

I told the massage shops i visited in the past days when i was in Batam. Surprise that they didnt know about the new rules in Singapore. Hence i am sure many Batam, Balai and maybe other Riau islands didnt know about the closure from Singapore. And later on Malaysia (starting 18th March 2020, according to news).

I believe many in Batam will lose their jobs. And next month is Ramadan...

Sorry, it just makes me feel that its like losing my job just a month or so before CNY.

You think really far and fast. I didnt think about a semi lock down like that from Singapore, so was kind of caught off guard this time round.

I wasnt expecting it and came almost completely by surprise.

Anyway, learned something new today (with a substantial price to pay ) and will be better prepared for my future Batam trips.

Another thing i learned. 神仙放屁，不同凡响. (when the Gods fart, it always sound so nicely loud)

When the Singapore government implemented something like this all of a sudden, everyone has to comply or face the consequences (14+2 days of stay-home-notice). And its often being propaganda-ed so nicely.

The only time when i visited Batam w/o a passport was during army time (didnt touch Batam land yet). 16 of our platoon's assault boat were lost during the hazing weather time during night time. We were later guide back to Singapore sea by the fisherman there. Poor navigation,hehehe...

Indo is like a walking virus country bros. Their reported cases are those tested ones. Tons of untested cases already spread all over the entire country. Just look at our imported cases you will know. At least 6-8 SG folks got infected after they visited Indonesia.

Now is really not a good time to travel. Stay safe bros
