So, time is coming. If everything will go as I hope, this October I will be back to KL (now dead) and then for a week to Batam, as I was used to do before Covid.
From now to October there is enough time to allow things to improve a lot about local entertainment and night activities, but also for another COVID wave and restrictions. We cross fingers.
I have a question for old-time regulars and for those who are going back to Batam recently with the reopening.

My place was Formosa, room 275 or 265 (business rooms). That era has ended.
Now I have to find my new home.

I am considering Four Points Sheraton, ex Allium, because of points on my Bonvoy account (I need nights, if I still want a residual hope to keep my Gold level). Price is more or less the same as old Formosa (less than 500k), but I am wary of rooms: only one type, just 30 sqm, smaller than Formosa. Also the price seems too cheap for a good room in a good hotel.
Anyone has ever tried this hotel in the last 2-3 years?
Are rooms ok?
How big is the King Size bed? I was used to big bed of Formosa, which could accommodate 3 persons easily.

The other hotel I am considering is Da Vienna. The regular room costs the same as old Formosa and just a little less than Four Points (!), but I remember it is too small (24 sqm!), smaller than Formosa. At Da Vienna, I would go to the Junior Suite, way more expensive, but which is much larger and also has a bath tub

So, any savvy travelery who can comment and provide recommendations?

I've just checked in at Planet Holiday after staying for 2 nights at Harmoni Suites. Told by staff that casino at 2nd floor here is opening for business on June 5. Don't know what type of casino is it. Just see the sign board 888

Have checked with batam fast again they have confirmed that travel insurance still need to purchase if enter through batam center.

But if enter through Harbourbay by Horizon dont need to purchase insurance..

Would you mind sharing your opinion about the rooms in those "higher class" hotels? Especially, the size of the room, the size of the bed, and if the bathroom has a bath tub (this was the only thing I missed at Formosa).

To be entirely honest: I am missing even the smell of old place of Formosa. I can't imagine myself arriving to Batam and not going straight there. I think I will go there on pilgrimage on my first day in Batam, stand in front of the main door and have a few seconds of meditation there.

Full information of rooms are available on Agoda and booking.com. Personally I like to stay in Harmoni Suites, room slightly smaller than at Planet Holiday, room rates about the same, around $35 a day, Queen size bed, both have bathtub. Harmoni Suites room look older, bathroom is not as nice as at Planet Holiday but has microwave oven, stove , easy to heat up food. While Planet Holiday has balcony, rooms at both hotels are consider well furnished for this kind of room rates.

Actually, what you write sounds a blocking "NO NO" for me. I love the idea to have a bath with a nice lady, but the queen size bed means that I cannot welcome TWO ladies to enjoy the comfort of my room.
Formosa was a bit run down, but the super king size of the bed has been always a major plus for me.

Formosa was a bit run down, but the super king size of the bed has been always a major plus for me.

Maybe king size bed is available for higher grade room type. As I'm staying at Studio at Harmoni Suites and Deluxe at Planet Holiday which both room type are on the lower end of both hotels, so I only get Queen size bed. Personally room at Planet Holiday is more class compare to room at Harmoni Suites. Harmoni looks run down and the bathroom is looks more awful than posted on Agoda. Also Planet Holiday has large swimming pool, bigger gym and jacuzzi pool (unfortunately jacuzzi pool spoil at the moment)

Hey bro, it's going to be my first trip to Batam and your reviews have been super helpful. I'm also thinking of staying at either of these two hotels but aside from the quality of the hotels I was wondering about the location.

Just based on the map, it seems like Harmoni is nearer to the big mall and somewhat nearer to the area with all the spas (like HK, G1). Planet Holiday looks like it's slightly further from those but nearer to the waterfront. How's getting around Batam and does the extra distance make much difference practically?

You will be spoilt for choice because they have various shapes, height and sizes available.... not to mention different skin tone color.

I took the fairest of the lot and was very contented indeed.

Just​ got confirmation from Majestic Fast Ferry that travel insurance to cover Covid19 is optional even for entry via Batam Centre Ferry Terminal.
